This first of its kind, community monitoring project is funded in part by the Environmental Protection Agency. E2I2 is installing tailored, solar-powered, community-owned air pollution monitoring sensors to collect real time, continuous pollution data in St John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana. The sensors are calibrated to collect data on PM 2.5, ethylene oxide, and chloroprene – hazards of concern to the community.
In partnership with The Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, and Intellectual Concepts, LLC E2I2 is spearheading the development of the sensor prototype to community specifications. Subsequently, we will provide training on installing, maintaining, and monitoring the devices, in addition to data literacy trainings on how to interpret and use the data for community advocacy projects.
